Christmas gift ideas for boys
60
Christmas is most likely the favorite time of the year for young boys. This is time of year is just as special as their birthday because this is the only other time they will get their favorite toys and games. If you are buying things for your nephew and you don't any specifics on what they want chances are you might get the wrong thing. Here is a list of things you could get and I don't think you will go wrong with buying any of these items.
Books: Believe it or not kids do like to read, you can help them read better by simply reading with them and correcting them with their pronunciation or defining words that they might not know. One of the popular books for boys around the age group of 9-12 is The Diary of a Wimpy Kid. This book is great because it is entertaining and has a lot of funny moments. If this particular child loves to read and they have not read The Diary of a Wimpy kid then I recommend you introduce him or her to it. I am pretty sure they will love this book. There are many books in the The Diary of a Wimpy Kid collection now. I recommend getting the first one and see if they like it and continue to get the other books in the series.

Games
Boys love video games, I don't know what's the attraction towards video games but boys just flock to video games. I guess we are just born with a video game chip in our brains. There are a lot of popular video games out there but you have to be careful of which games are more suitable depending on the age group. Violent videos should only be played by adults and I think teens need to be restricted from playing games that involve intense violence. That is a another topic for another day. If the boy receiving this gift is into Legos then they will certain love Lego Batman and Lego Indiana Jones games. These games are available for all major game consoles. Another popular game is Pirates of the Caribbean. The Nintendo Wii also has popular games that will not only keep the kids active while playing video games it can be a family getaway without leaving the house. I personally have the Nintendo Wii and we love playing sports games and challenging each other.
With all major gaming consoles dropping their retail prices recently it is a good time to buy one of these game consoles as they are going to be around another 2-3 years before a new model is released. Nintendo Wii recently went from $249 to $199. Xbox 360 is also lowered to $199, Playstation 3 is also lowered to $299. Many of the online retailers have bundles available for these consoles. Nintendo DSi is new to the market with a camera feature as the main difference with the older model.
Music players
Apple released a new iPod Nano this year and it has been a hot item to have. Especially with all the buzz around an addon accessory to make the iPod Nano into a watch. This device makes a good gift in itself and buying the addon watch band makes it a two in one gift.
Kids around the age of 8+ will most likely want a music player that lets them listen to music as they are cleaning the room. Especially since they wouldn't have a stereo system installed in their bedroom. I recommend going with the Apple iPod Shuffle if it is the child's first music player because chances are they may loose it, or even break the screen of any other iPod model out there. With the Apple iPod Shuffle you can clip it to any part of your garment and you do not have to worry about it breaking any screens since it does not have any. Also the new age Apple iPod Shuffle has enough room to store at least 2 gigabytes of data. That should be more than plenty of music to rock to.
Apple iPod Touch is also another popular gift item. It can store up to 32 gigabytes of data and it allows for games to be downloaded from iTunes store. Personally, I think it is a bad gift to give this as a gift for any active kid because they may drop the Apple iPod Touch and the screen will be ruined and also it is not inexpensive so losing it will be disappointing.
Toys
Toys are always a good gift, just don't them a stuffed animal! Legos are always good, puzzles, also sporting goods like football, baseball equipment are also good ideas. It not only encourages the child to play outside and socialize with other peers it also keeps them from turning into a couch potato. Also board games are my personal favorite, it not only involves the whole family it also evolves their mind into thinking strategically. My personal favorite games are Monopoly, Battleship and Chess.

Not that I don't think children like what's available to them this day and age, but when I was a kid, things were so much more simple. I think that my generation (and if I had to guess, your's as well) were the last to see the golden age of toys, like Transformers and G.I. Joe when they were well-made. Thanks for the great advice.
