Best Ways To Save On Car Insurance
63If someone were to ask me what are the biggest money pits in our lives that have become a necessity? Then I would put the car as the class leader. It is an asset that holds no value, it only depreciates over time and it costs money just to use it (gas). Car insurance is also one of those things that you have to have along with your health insurance. Car insurance is a must is majority of the states in the U.S. With more and more people on the roads these days car insurance has become a key component just like gas. But, how often do you check to see if we are truly getting the best rate? Are you paying too much? Are you getting the right coverage?
When I bought my first car I realized that shopping for car insurance is no easy matter. There are usually 5-10 page online forms you have to fill out before you can even get a quote. Here are some tips I used to save money on my car insurance premium, hopefully they will help you as well.
- Increase your Comprehensive & Collision deductible. If you are a new customer or an existing customer, try a $1000 deductible. Usually the default the insurance companies have as the deductible is $500. You can always go lower to $250 but the lower the deductible, higher the premium. Deductible is the amount you are responsible for in case of an accident were you were found at fault. With $1000 deductible you would pay higher in case of an accident, but you will see a big difference in your monthly payments. Of course you want to avoid getting into an accident and you will need to have that $1000 amount set aside in case you do get into an accident.
- Shop around periodically, just because you got the best deal in 2007 doesn't mean it is still a good deal this year. Depending on your good driving record you might save even more by getting quotes from other car insurance providers. If you do find a better deal elsewhere let your car insurance company know so they at least try to match this other quote you received. If they do match it, you will save a ton of time and hassle of switching car insurers.
- See if there are perks provided by your insurance company. I.e. Allstate provides a $100 off deductible each year you go without an accident. There are many other company and I will not go into perks offered by these various car insurance companies. You should do your own search or call your car insurer to see if you are able to sign up for any of these perks.
- Another key feature of your car insurance is limited vs full tort. I did not know much about torts till I started driving. I personally went for limited tort because I am more about saving money. You should decide which tort you would prefer to have. Here is a link to better explain the difference between limited & full tort.
In todays world were we need car insurance much like health insurance it is important that we get ourselves the best deals to save money on the long run.

Another great one. Luckily, my husband and I get military insurance. However, when we were getting full coverage from progressive it was around $300 a month. Seriously? $300 a month? Shopping around is a must. Another thing people don't seem to understand is that you can haggle insurance. If you call and talk to someone you're much more likely to get a deal rather than filling out a form online.
